Literacy for Life and WORKThe “Literacy for Life and Work Project” funded by DEEDI under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative aims at providing a literacy and numeracy course to CALD Background people aged 18 and over. People need to have completed an AMEP or LLNP course at TAFE or need to acquire a high level of competence in the English language and math skills in order to enrol in further education or employment. Class attendance will on Thursday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Prior to the commencement of the course, students will be assessed according to their individual learning goals and a plan will be drawn to meet their individual needs. As illustrated in the attached flyer, students will be learning English while doing interesting activities tailored to meet their specific learning requirements. Activities will include group and pair work, practical conversation, grammar, reading, writing, and pronunciation at beginner and intermediate levels. We woudl like to ask Teachers, Team Leaders, Case Coordinators, Case Managers and Counsellors to please refer their clients to the course. This can be done by simply sending us an email with clients contact details and we will be happy to follow up. We are looking to recruit 15 students for each intake period which extend for 10 to eleven weeks. Feel free to forward this email to your networks. Within the course, the students are taught various aspects of literacy and numeracy such as: - Communication Skills - Money Management - Understanding Signs - Spelling - Travel, Timetables & Directions - Writing and Form Filling - Employment Literacy The above mention topics assists the students in becoming familiar with daily life in a new country, as well as providing them with the needed outlets to gain professional outcomes. In addition to the large base of practical skills taught within the course, students are also given the opportunity to highlight the areas in which they believe are more suited to attaining their personal goals for the course. This literacy course is designed in a way to allow a one-on-one teaching style, allowing participants to work in a comfortable self-paced learning environment as well as giving them the opportunity to tailor their learning experience in order to meet their specific needs and goals. See the shedule here AIM OF THE COURSE By the end of the course we aim for students to have reached a level of learning that allows them to venture into a higher education institution such as University or TAFE and also have the knowledge needed to successfully enter into the workforce.
To enrol in the course, students can be referred by a service provider such as Centrelink, social workers, doctors etc or simply come into Harmony Place located at 30 Shottery Street Yeronga and fill out an enrolment form. Eligibility Criteria:
