People from Culturally an Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds accessing mental health support may be very competent or have been competent in other aspects of their life but at present may look for assistance in dealing with a mental health issue or mental illness. They may also experience the following:

• Language barriers
• Cultural barriers
• Stress about accommodation issues
• Limited or non existing social networks
• Isolation
• Difficulty in communication their needs with service providers 
• Difficulty understanding the system, especially the  mental health system
• Myths about mental illness/different beliefs about mental illness and the mental health system and stigma.
• Legal issues – usually migration issues, etc.
